Gomphocarpus Physocarpus

Asclepias physocarpa, or “Balloon tree” is an ornamental plant of the Apocynaceae family. It is also known as silk tree or butterfly tree. It is a host plant for the caterpillars of butterflies of the Danaus genus, including the Lesser Monarch. English speakers call it balloonplant, balloon cotton-bush, bishop’s balls or swan plant. The plant is native to South Africa, but has been widely naturalized. It is often used as an ornamental plant. The name “Balloon Tree” is an allusion to the swollen follicles that are filled with seeds.
