The blue thistle, or Echinops ritro, is a perennial and erect plant, which grows spontaneously in waste places in the south of France. About 1 m high, the fluted and branched stem is silvery green. All along, are inserted large, very indented leaves, green above, tomentose below. The lobes are edged with spines.
