
Peonies (genus Paeonia), from the ancient Greek παιωνία, feminine variant of the adjective παιώνιος (clean to heal, beneficial), païônía (pronounced “peonia”): peony, medicinal plant, are plants with tuberous roots, originating from various regions from Europe to the Far East, especially China, where they are associated with the city of Luoyang, as well as the western United States.
