Albizia is a botanical genus of about 150 species of small, fast-growing tropical or subtropical trees and shrubs.
It belongs to the Mimosaceae family according to the classical classification, or to that of the Fabaceae, subfamily of the Mimosoideae according to the phylogenetic classification. The genus, often incorrectly spelled “Albizzia”, nevertheless owes its name to Filippo del Albizzi, an Italian who introduced it to Europe in the middle of the 18th century.
