The Himalayan blue poppy, also called Tibetan blue poppy and Himalayan blue poppy (Meconopsis betonicifolia, also Meconopsis baileyi, Tibetan: Utpal Ngonpo) is a perennial plant of the Papaveraceae family. It was first described in 1886 by Pierre Jean Marie Delavay. In 1912 (or 1913), a specimen was collected by Frederick Markham Bailey (Bailey-Morshead Exploration Mission of Tsangpo Gorge). It is a plant of traditional Tibetan medicine at risk of disappearing due to excessive commercialization.
