Pistia stratiotes, sometimes called “water lettuce”, “water lettuce” or “water cabbage”, is a species of aquatic plant in the family Araceae. This plant is now pantropical: it is found in America, Asia, Africa, Oceania and has been introduced into Europe. It is the only currently accepted species of the genus Pistia.
Since 2022, it has been listed on the “List of invasive alien species of concern to the European Union”.
